Tonga Ridge Hike

Today Rick and I decided to take a drive out to Tonga Ridge, the weather at home was soggy and overcast and we thought at least we would have a nice drive even if it turned out to be a bad day for hiking once we reached our destination. Well, we reached Tonga Ridge and we could not turn away, the sun was shinning, we were above the clouds and our plan was set and now in motion…

BTW if you are into hiking around the beautiful Pacific North West, then please pick up a copy of Rick McGuire’s book, 55 Hikes Around Stevens Pass. We’ve found some amazing places to explore and have not been dissapointed yet, this guide is packed with information on some of the top places to hike.
Check out the photos from our hike to Wallace Falls, a hike we found in the above guide and continue reading more below for our latest venture!
As we began our venture to new territory, we had a group of three before us…these 3 ladies were backpacked and ready to go in their Columbia hiking gear…hydration packs, Maxpedition backpacks and mind you I think the youngest gal of the bunch was in her late 50′s and oldest in her mid 70′s! They were such a delightful and helpful group as we ran into them at least 3 times during the hike. They educated us on one of the coolest and most friendly birds, sorry the name escapes me at the moment, checkout the photo below of Rick feeding it from his hands.

Our hike started at 11:00AM and ended at 3:15pm as we reached our starting point…yes the truck…my legs and Rick’s as well as Dante’s were screaming for the comfort! In short, the hike was amazing…beautiful views, amazing weather…although our intention was to reach Fisher Lake…too many mosquitos and an additional 1.5 miles, we opted to turn out and head home due to time constraints; but all in all a wonderful day spent with my baby!
