Rain’s Extraction

Dr Gregory came out this morning with his assistant Anna to remove 4 of Rain’s baby teeth that were hindering the growth of his adult teeth and I snapped a few quick shots to share :)

I’d write more but I’m still feeling crappy from this cold/flu bug I have, so hope you enjoy the pictures and HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

Horse Play

Awww,  windy wintery days, crunchy snow and frisky horses, who could ask for more! Indy and Rain enjoying our cold morning in the pasture. Rain gave some great expressions, especially the wink and the tongue sticking out :)

Sunnin’

I haven’t posted about Indy and Rain in a long time so when the distraction presented itself, I could not help but go out and take an opportunity to catch a few candid shots of my horses sunnin’ in the barn.

Just about 1:40pm this afternoon I brought them over from the pasture that is full of nice thick green grass where they had been grazing for about an hour for their lunch time. Well as I went back to my office they stood there in the barn doorway with full bellies and their nice warm and stylish winter blankets on.

As I was watching from my office window I could not help but smile as I watched their lower lips drooped and their heads bounce down and then quickly up once again.

Then it happened, Rain decided it was too warm and he had had enough of this darn blanket…that’s when I grabbed my camera and off to the barn I went.

He had somehow gotten his mouth into the front of his blanket and pulled it up

enough to expose his lil derriere.

From then it was on, I was like ‘Horse Paparazzi” all of a sudden.

…and then they cornered me!

R&R

Rick, Rain, Indy and I (ani) headed out to meet up with the neighbors but unfortunetly we did not connect until the last part of the ride…so Rick and I headed off to a journey that was near perfect…here is the only shot from today, it was Rain and Rick in the driveway just before we left; as many of you know Rick is not an avid horseback rider; in fact he loves his quad as his first choice of mobile entertainment so this was a special treat for me to go riding with my hubby and our horses!

Indians, Flamencos and Paso Finos

My neighbor, friend and horse riding buddy, Judy asked me to bring the girls over to play dress up and ride her Paso Fino “Star”…

The girls had a blast; of course Aunti Ani ran the lead with the horse to get the girls in pretty much a fast canter so they could say they actually did it…i was fun for me too! :)

here are some from today:

Playing Parelli Games…

Today started in a weird way…I started feelin’ kinda crappy after giving Indy breakfast this morning because she was givin me maritude like months prior to us starting Parelli. So I decided to get a really good workout done after cleaning the barn followed by an hour of P90X stretch…I then came into the office answered emails, checked out work and decided I’m gonna go and fetch my horse.

I saddled Indy and took her into our pasture that we are clearing out and decided to let her graze a little then work on some transitions. We did for a bit and all was going well but I felt bad for Rainy running around and calling out to us…so I took Indy back to the barn, fetched Rain and all three of us headed back into the pasture.

Now I’ve never ponied a horse before nor played with Rain and Indy while riding so this was all a new challenge and experience for us…it was fun, my day changed completely and my mood was elevated to a sense of accomplishment and pride. Instead of me just working on Indy and trying to make things right with her, I actually worked on all three of us and made things right for all of us. My role as leader came into play in a positive way and the three of us became a partners while having fun and establishing our roles with each other…anywho’s I’m not one for long posts but this was a great day of horsewomanship :)

Rick took the following photos for us at the end of our playtime:

A Peacock and two Buckskins…

This morning I sat with my bowl of Corn Flakes after my P90x workout getting ready to answer emails when Indy & Rain started running, bucking and moving across both pastures like a runaway locamotive. I didn’t think much about it other than they were feeling pretty good and full from breakfast; that is until I came across a peacock wandering around the chicken coop.

This guy started at the chicken coop, then wandered into the pasture where I ran out in my socks, camera in hand in hopes of catching a moment. These are definately nothing to hang in a gallery but I thought it would be fun to share. Once the horses knew I was aware of the peacock they went after it on command as if to say, “Hey get the heck outta my turf!”

Peacock running wild!

Indy & Rain

These two photos of Indy & Rain were taken today as I was testing out my Canon 75-300 zoom lens. I figured I should get used to taking photos more often with the Canon xTi since I might have to send in my Nikon D70 for a way overdue cleaning. I’ve had it for about 4 years now and it’s been through a heck of alot of different environments. Although I like the Canon xTi, I’m still having sepereation anxiety of just thinking it wont be around for a few weeks :(

Ok on to the photos of my two favorite horses ever:

Rain aka “Papi Chulo” - My 3 year old buckskin gelding.

Indy - Extra Dry Tari - My 4 year old Buckskin mare.
