Different Perspectives…Shooting from the Hip

Today I came up with a pretty good idea of using my old D70s for trail riding. It is still in good shape but I would rather take it than the D2X when I’m riding on horseback. Since it was Rain’s turn to take out riding, this was the perfect day to test out how my shooting from the hip technique would work on horseback.

I had the camera slung across my right shoulder; shortened so the strap wouldn’t hit the horn or have a chance of getting caught on anything that could put me in danger.

All pictures were taken on Manual settings on the Nikon D70s, jpeg fine and the lens was the Nikkor 50mm 1.8.

Today was a very overcast day, Rain and I headed out on the trails around noon and were gone for the better part of 2 1/2 hours.

All photos were edited using my custom recipes in Nik filters.

Baby Emilio, Lil Curly Locks

Say hi to my great nephew Emilio, I have not met a sweeter baby, always smiling and so curious. I dug out my old Nikon D70S a couples weeks back since I haven’t played with it in years and took these quick little snaps. I’ve been practicing shooting from the hip with it using my nifty fifty and have loved taking it along with me in the car and on hikes. It is great to practice with, it is permanently set to manual and since it shoots jpeg it really pushes my thinking.

The Great PNW is Diversity!

Back in 1990 when I first came to the PNW as a student to attend the AIS for audio/video production I had no idea I would:

a. fall in love with this place. I did sorta kinda have an inkling although :)
b. think I would leave and move back to CA. Temporary!
c. finally ever move back. Here to stay!

But through the years my heart has always been in Seattle, sorry San Francisco…now Rick and I call this beautiful place home. I love that I wake up nestled in the middle of the cascades and that I am only a 1/2 hour away from downtown.

When family and friends come to visit if they dont get the whole tour they think we are crazy living way out in the “boonies” as they put…that is until they get the Ani tour :)

Here are some quick snaps from yesterday’s outing with my nephew. I wished back in the 90′s when I was living here on my own  could have afforded a camera but now I can and I give you these…welcome to my eyes!

Seattle, Touring the City

I took my nephew Jorge to see the sights yesterday on an impromptu trip to Pike Place Market. He’s been here since last Saturday and since he is missing his little one and new bride I thought this would be the perfect way to cheer him up.

It did big time!

I have never seen a bigger and more brighter smile as we walked for miles checking out the market, shops and Pioneer Square.

It brought back memories of my first time in Seattle back in the early 90′s. I was young adventurous and fell in love with the city’s atmosphere instantly!

I think I heard, I’m never going back to Cali at least a half a dozen times :)
