Salad for Lunch

I was in a lot of pain and discomfort today after pulling fencing wire and driving tpost in the ground yesterday. I think I yanked a little to hard and caused a flair up in my herniated disc on my c6/c7. Anywhos I am feeling pretty crappy and didnt get much done today except for coming up with a salad I thought was pretty darn good and good looking, so I took a couple shots and made up the following recipe card…enjoy!

We had lamb shanks, the pups and pixies had chicken…YUM!
I just had to take these of the lil ones sleepin off their full bellies.

Whidbey Island

Last week Rick, Tuki and I went on a road trip to Whidbey Island; the island was beautiful and the sunshine made for a great ferry ride. We stopped for lunch at the Mad Crab which was very pricey for fried Halibut and fish tacos and the crab cakes had zero crab…hmmm.

After lunch we got back in the Charger and decided to checkout some real estate; along the way we came to a tourist spot and pulled over to see what was going on…well it was Deception Pass and it was beautiful!

I’ve been playing around with Adobe Lightroom’s development and Photoshop’s painting features and am really getting a knack for this new style that is developing…here is one from today; worked on it off and on throughout the day and was going to add horses, chipmunks, etc. to it and decided that it looked just fine the way I was without anything else.

Grunge Painterly

I haven’t done anything artistic in a long time so after watching some tutorials that Scott Kelby recently did I am feeling inspired.

Messed around with the development settings in Lightroom then smudge painted in Photoshop. I really like the grungy effect and saturated colors on these.

Meet Buckwheat

Our neighbor has asked me to help him sell his horse Buckwheat (Quarter horse/gelding) that he absolutely loves and adores but unfortunately no longer has the time to take care of properly. I am now looking for a loving and caring home for this big, beautiful guy.

Intially I wanted to take him over and keep him in the slight chance that maybe he would find the time to ride him again but my heart is way bigger than the amount of time I have for the many other things I have going on right now.

I will be placing his ad in various horse classifieds and on bulletin boards but I figured this would be a great place to start…

He is a sweetheart, that leads well but he does need an experienced rider…he came over to WA all the way from Montana and is a great mountain trail horse.

I went through the photos of Buckwheat and my neighbor this evenig and I absolutely fell more in love with this horse as I looked at how much he loved being apart of a partnership, the photos of my neighbor and Buckwheat laying in the fields together after a long ride are truly priceless and speaks volumes at what a great horse and friend this was and is for him…this horse is truly going to make some human one lucky partner!

Cat Scratch Fever

So last week I brought Saku in for the night and he sunk his claw in my neck, the next morning I noticed a small pea like bump behind my right ear…didn’t think anything of it until later in the day when the lump got bigger and was painful to the touch. Well a full week later and after seeing the doc twice in one week I’m now on my second dose of antibiotics…I hate taking pharmaceuticals…I’d rather suffer through it until it goes away but it seems like my rapid lymph node growth and the swelling/tenderness is just a lil to much to soon for the doc…so now I’m on this new antibiotic called Ciprofloxacin:

So in the mean time while I recover from side effects, nausea, rashes and others…the blog will be on a wee bit of a hiatus

Playing Parelli Games…

Today started in a weird way…I started feelin’ kinda crappy after giving Indy breakfast this morning because she was givin me maritude like months prior to us starting Parelli. So I decided to get a really good workout done after cleaning the barn followed by an hour of P90X stretch…I then came into the office answered emails, checked out work and decided I’m gonna go and fetch my horse.

I saddled Indy and took her into our pasture that we are clearing out and decided to let her graze a little then work on some transitions. We did for a bit and all was going well but I felt bad for Rainy running around and calling out to us…so I took Indy back to the barn, fetched Rain and all three of us headed back into the pasture.

Now I’ve never ponied a horse before nor played with Rain and Indy while riding so this was all a new challenge and experience for us…it was fun, my day changed completely and my mood was elevated to a sense of accomplishment and pride. Instead of me just working on Indy and trying to make things right with her, I actually worked on all three of us and made things right for all of us. My role as leader came into play in a positive way and the three of us became a partners while having fun and establishing our roles with each other…anywho’s I’m not one for long posts but this was a great day of horsewomanship

Rick and I fell in love with Tuwa soo much that we knew we would have to get him another playmate besides Tuke…after all Tuke will be just around 4-5lbs and Tuwa could grow up to be much like his papa Waco Bob weighing in at a whopping 22lbs. So we contacted Carol Ann ( originating breeder of Pixiebobs) to inquire about the last litter of kittens…she had a cute little girl remaining and we told her we would take her. But as chance would have it she phoned us and explained that a couple had adopted Tuwa’s brother previously could no longer care for him and if we would want to take him home. We emphatically said yes!

So we piled into the truck with cat crates and puppy crates and headed to our meeting spot and brought home Tuwa’s long lost brother, of the same litter, and could not be more happy with him.

Flower World

Well it looks like spring is almost upon us here in the great PNW, we had our first warm day (80 degrees) to be exact. So Rick, Tuke and I loaded into the truck and took a drive to Flower World on a mission to seek out some citrus fruit trees.

This was one time I was glad to have remembered my golden rule of ‘take the camera with you everywhere no matter where you are going’. This place was awesome, every plant imaginable with a petting zoo and pond with geese.

Tuwa’s First Outing…

We took Tuwa and Tuke for their first hike today…Tuke unfortunately got sick in the dog backpack carrier so I had to bring him home. Rick and I went to Canyon’s today so I could get my Turkey Burger fix and then stopped at Pet Pros on the way home to have the boys fitted for harnesses today. It was a nice break away from work…here are some quick snaps of Tuwa playing and wearing his harness.
