Photographing Tulips

I’m not very good at taking photographs of flowers at all, but I have been pushing myself to try new and different things so yesterday morning I snapped a few frames of the newly bloomed tulips in our front garden.

These are my interpretations so far but I think I will definitely try again, these were taken with my Nikon D90 and the Nikon 60mm f/2.8g I made a few B&W adjustments in CS5 using Nik Software.

Testing Long Exposures on Nikon D90

Tonight as I went out to lock up the gates on the property I decided to head down to the creek bed by the river and try some long exposure shots. I definitely need to do this again and this time remember to put the tripod in the car with me.

Here is an example of what I need to improve upon.

POTW, Lil Tuki, My Muse…Nikkor 55-300mm & Lensbaby Muse

Taken with the lensbaby muse, I have had the muse for sometime now but never used it before. I still need lots of practice with it; as I was sitting by the window reading on the lil creation Tuki decided to jump up and stare out the window for me and I was able to capture this rather cute photo.

Taken with Nikon D90 and lensbaby muse.

I’m adding a second image to this post, this shot is another test with the Nikon Nikkor 55-300mm VR lens and my D90. Available light, 185mm 1/200sec at f /5.0 ISO 200.

Photo A Week Project, Take These Broken Wings

I was thinking today after going through some studying on the web that I should have a couple projects a week going to help fuel my creativity with photography. I decided on a couple but those will have to wait until the time is right; but tonight I was reading up on slow sync flash photos and just happen to have a broken ornament on my desk to play with so I snapped a few shutter buttons and played with this shot in Photoshop.

I like how the subject matter played out with this image and it will be my first “Photo A Week” project that I will start our with. Next week the challenge is to create an image using a technique I’ve never used before on something ordinary from my everyday life…hmmm, this may get interesting.

Camera: Nikon D90
Lens: Micro Nikkor 60mm

Until next time…

Ciao Bellas!

Photography, Getting Back to the Love of the Lens!

I think the last few years have been a bit of an up and down climb for me personally when it comes to photography and what it means to me as an aspiring enthusiast! I sometimes question why I think it matters to share the images I create on this blog, with family and friends or why I even want to keep track of the visuals I see in my daily life.

I have gone weeks, sometimes months without shooting a single frame, without holding my beloved Nikon D90 in my grasp or without reading, learning about photography. While I write this post and reflect back it is bittersweet, because I’m saddened by this but at the same time feel a renewal of my love for it.

So I have made a little promise, because big promises can get overwhelming in a flux of day to day responsibilities, and decided to little by little surround myself with my love of photography. So I grabbed my camera and my 60mm macro and just walked around with it in the office taking random test shots.

My goal was not to create a masterpiece but just to shoot what I saw in a small space and to use it as a reminder that the little things are important and just immersing myself a lil bit at a time with the things I am passionate about can make a big difference in the overall outlook of things to come!

Testing Nikon/Nikkor 55-300mm Lens on Nikon D90

The winter has been mild here in the great PNW, well with the exception of the 12 days we went to Kauai for our 10th wedding anniversary, (biggest snow storm of 2012 so far hit our little town while we were away) so I have not been posting on the blog much for various reasons.

Recently I went through the house and decided it was time to sell a bunch of stuff on eBay which helped me to afford a little gift, the Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S DX Nikkor Zoom Lens . I just received this lil guy in the mail yesterday and haven’t had a chance to do many test shots except for this single shot I took this morning on my way out to do chores.

Just from looking at this single shot of my Earl Twist saddle I can tell I’m going to have lots of fun with this new lens, looking forward to getting some time to hopefully play with it in the next couple of days.

Spada Lake Kayaking – Sultan, WA

Rick and I recently paddled out in our fairly new Wilderness Systems Tarpon 100 Sit On Top Kayak 2011 to Spada Lake. It was a chilly morning for August and the cloud coverage gave way for some dramatic light/shadows. We brought our fearless buddy, Tuki Yorkshire along for the maiden voyage. I’d have to say these kayaks are comfortable, easy to maneuver and perfect for carrying all the camera gear I was packing that day…and it kept my lil buddy safe and dry :)

Below are some pics I took with my Nikon D90 with the lens kit 18-105mm I added a little 70′s vintage to the photos because lately I’m just feeling it thata way!

Enjoy Bellas, Ciao for now!

Stone Islands Rio Grand or “Fat Boy”

Rio was being really cute today when I was taking test shots with the Nikon D90, 18-105mm kit I received in the mail a couple days ago.

Oh yeah, there are a couple of Tuki also being cute! :P

BTW, I will write a full post later on just how I was able to get my grubby lil mitts on the D90 later on this week :)
